Carrot Puttu | Infothora Recipes
Puttu is one of the popular Kerala's Breakfast dishes. It is usually made with Rice flour/ Wheat flour and grated coconut. It is commonly made in a cylindrical vessel called Puttu Kutti ( Puttu maker).
Other types of vessels are also used nowadays like steaming vessels for Chiratta puttu, Idli maker for Idli puttu, etc.
Carrot Puttu is a combination of traditional puttu and carrot.
Carrot Puttu
Ingredients;
- Rice Flour - 1 Cup
- Carrot - 1/4 cup / Half a carrot
- Coconut - 1/2 cup
- Lukewarm water - as per need
- Salt
- Ghee - 1/4 tsp (optional)
Preparation;
- Grind the carrot in a mixer grinder.
- Once the carrot is ground add small portions of rice flour to it and grind well.
- Now transfer the flour into a bowl.
- Add 1/4 cup of grated coconut, salt (as per taste), ghee (optional), and mix it with your hand.
- Sprinkle lukewarm water into the flour until it gets a consistency, where the flour should hold a round shape when you press between the fits and crumble when you press with your fingers.
- Now take the Chiratta Puttu kutti/ Puttu maker ( use your preferred puttu maker) and add some grated coconut as a base.
- Then fill the mold with the prepared carrot rice flour. (If you are making cylindrical puttu, fill the mold halfway and add grated coconut in the middle and at the top)
- Let it steam for 10 minutes.
Now the Carrot Puttu is ready to serve.
Serve hot with your favorite side dish.
